If you don’t want people (including the Police) to think you are doing something, don’t engage in activities that tend to draw the conclusion that you may be indeed doing that given ‘thing’. I.e., If you don’t want people to think you are a drunk, don’t come staggering out of a bar every night at 2:30.

If you don’t want people to think you are trespassing, don’t go snooping around their property without their permission.

This is a set of circumstances that can be Monday Morning Quarterbacked to death. While its true the Police are supposed to be trained professionals, placed in a “him or me” situation I believe a person or group of people trained or not are capable of instinctively using survival level (deemed ‘excessive’ by some) force.

There are several factors at work here not the least of which is Gregory Rold’s general health / physical condition. If when confronted by Police, Gregory Rold had stopped and talked to the Police and answered their questions, it is likely that not only would he be alive today, but freely walking the streets after receiving a warning not to go rummaging for pop cans in the trash without permission from the property owner or manager.

As soon as Mr. Rold made the choice to give the Police a reason to arrest him, then subsequently began to resist arrest, the entire dynamic changed. Now, not only do the Police have to take this guy into custody, they have to do it without getting hurt themselves, they must control their instinctual urges while constantly assessing and reassessing the situation, try and do as little harm to the suspect as reasonably possible given the circumstances all within a few seconds.

With all that is happening in those few short moments, the Police need to also send the message that guilty or innocent, your full cooperation is the best way to avoid any problems. Once it is determined that a suspect is resisting, the word “unpleasant” will take on a whole new meaning as it should.

Honesty, Loyalty and Integrity - Three words I try very hard to live by. I take great offence if someone implies that I am anything less than honest and loyal or that I lack integrity.

On July 19th, the Salem Statesman Journal ran a very negative article on Oregon’s initiative process.

I’ll be the first to say, the process needs some work, but the idea is very good.

The Salem Statesman Journal article rants on about fraudulent (Read the article here) signature gathering referencing Bill Sizemore as well as a couple of initiatives that apparently got caught with seemingly fraudulent signatures on initiative petition sheets.

One of the messages I got out of the article is if someone comes up to you and aggressively tries to get you to sign one or more initiative petitions, chances are he’s a paid signature gatherer (with little or no real vested interest in the petition[s] he wants you to sign), and he’s probably going to go home at the end of the day and copy your information onto several more petitions.

The most irritating thing about this article is they used my picture as the poster boy for initiative fraud. The picture is from one of the events we had on the capitol steps for The Respect For The Law Act, Initiative Petition #112.

I never received a nickel for my signature gathering efforts on behalf of Initiative #112, in fact I have substantial time and money invested in promoting #112. I feel it was my privilege to be able to participate in a campaign that I really believe in.

I am outraged that the Salem Statesman Journal put my picture on an article that by association implies that I and the campaign I was working on was anything less that 100% honest and by the book.

This was the first initiative petition attempted by Oregonians for Immigration Reform, and I’m certain it will not be the last. The last thing we need is to be disparaged for fraudulent signature gathering on our first (or any) attempt, even if it is only by loose association.

I liken the Salem Statesman Journal’s placement of my picture on top of this very negative article to them perhaps placing it on top of an article about a serial rapist. No, the article never mentions my name or the initiative campaign I’m collecting signatures for, but the guilt by association is overwhelming.

I guess it would be nice if the Salem Statesman Journal would also mention those of us that are trying to do it right along with those that try to cut corners rather than stick all of us in one big cesspool. Oh, but that would be responsible journalism.

Do you suppose Al Sharpton will be screaming and yelling about the egregious comments made by Jesse Jackson? Shouldn’t Don Imus be just outraged by the grotesque comment? After all, Obama is half white, though he doesn’t talk about it much.

Trying to stay as neutral as possible, I find Jesse Jackson’s comments more prejudice than the ones Imus made. Imus did not call the Rudger’s Girls Basketball team Nappy Headed Hoes, he said they looked like a bunch of Nappy Headed Hoes. Jesse said he wanted to cut Barack Obama’s balls off. It doesn’t get any more direct than that.

To make matters worse, as tasteless as Imus’ comments were, no one questions whether or not they were made in jest. Clearly they were. Jesse Jackson’s comments were definitely made in anger and directed specifically at [his friend] Barack Obama.

I sure hope Jackson has to do multiple public apologies, meet with the Obamas and ask for their forgiveness and ask how many millions of his dollars spent on their behalf will keep the Obamas from needing psychological help and is publicly humiliated for at least the next year.

Do you suppose Jackson was addressing the white half of Obama? Crap! That makes it racial!

As Vice-Pres. of OFIR I understand that the issue of illegal immigration is a non-partisan issue impacting all Americans and legal immigrants.

This notice concerns only registered Republicans and the current ballot just received.

Included in your election ballot is a form (yellow) to become a Precinct Committee Person or PCP. A PCP has the voting rights to influence what happens in the party. You can become a PCP by voting for yourself (write-in) and having just two others write you in on their form and mail it in with the ballot.

These two others need to be registered in the Republican Party and in your precinct or one of the adjacent precincts.

There are hundreds of slots open statewide, so your vote(s) to become a PCP should be approved.

Why bother? I understand why many of you are frustrated with John McCain and the Republican Party leadership decision to ignore or pander on this issue of illegal immigration.

These leaders are convinced that groups such as PCUN or "La Raza" (supporters of amnesty) and other enablers of crimes will now tell their indentured sheep to vote for McCain. However you and I know that these special interest groups, who are taking advantage of these desperate people and the language barrier, will never change their agenda. They would cease to exist if they did.

I believe that some elite leaders are only listening to the few employers and special interest groups that are breaking several federal laws, not the majority of voters. If we really had a labor shortage wages would be going through the roof, they are not as you know.

If the majority of Americans really wanted amnesty, legislation would have easily passed the 1st or the 2nd time around. It hasn’t and is not going to this year either.

Attrition thru enforcement does work and is the most humane, efficient and compassionate solution, not rewarding bad behavior. The 1986 amnesty and the results of it 22 years later should be enough proof. Attrition is a result of respecting the rule of law, a Republican Party by-law.

Did you know this important news? The Oregon Republican Party wrote and passed a resolution supporting the Respect for Law Act, twice. This is our only opportunity at enforcing immigration laws here in Oregon for now. We should let the entire state know that republicans do support the rule of law and therefore motivate the larger majority of voters that agree with this.

Party leaders should not be afraid to support the 9 out of 10 employers that are not violating laws. Instead voter registrations and donations prove we have lost a majority support position and will continue to do so if we pander to corrupt employers only.

Did you read about this resolution in your Newspaper? Get an e-mail? Saw this on the TV News? Heard this on the Radio? No. No. No. Some republican leaders again are choosing to ignore this after five months of several of us asking for out reach efforts to happen. How much longer can just a couple of people ignore the will of the people? Isn’t that the same reason that millions have fled their countries, risking all to come here?

They have leaders that ignore the needs and wants of the people. Together we can change this. Together we must change this for the future of our nation or this anarchy will become the norm.

Our economy, jobs, crime, schools, and health care are all impacted negatively by this overwhelming stream of illegals. If illegal aliens were "good for the economy", the state with the most illegals, California, would be enjoying record prosperity. Instead they are billions and billions in debt.

We the taxpayers are paying the bills for corrupt employers and special interest groups via millions of people willing to work for less pay then you and by being experts at taking advantage of our generous social safety nets.

Republican by-laws say we are the party of less taxes and government; however some leaders in our party are ignoring the #1 reason for increased government spending = illegal aliens.

I refuse to ignore this issue as I read about illegal’s killing and raping people every week, crimes that are preventable when the law is applied.

Republicans in other states know how important this is and the results have been the introduction of over 1,100 new bills to stop illegal immigration introduced this year. I refuse to ignore the identity theft or fraud crisis. I refuse to ignore the Meth epidemic. I refuse to make excuses while people continue to suffer when we all know how it could be significantly reduced,
by honoring the rule of law.

Please consider becoming a PCP now, while you have that ballot handy. If we cannot get help from the leadership here for now, as a PCP you can change that.

Do not give up; together we can stop illegal immigration and get our party on the right track again. After all, it is the LAW.

When I woke up this morning, I wasn't feeling well. It is after all that time of year when colds and flu are making the rounds. We've been told that even though you may have gotten a Flu Shot, it really isn't going to do you much good. Hmmmmm, sounds a lot like our government lately. We may have one, but it isn't doing us citizens much good right now.

As I said, I wasn't feeling well, so I got up around 4:00am. At 4:30am I turned on the local news. They were prepared with Breaking News that gas prices are at an all time high and are likely to hit $4.00 a gallon by summer. And that's for Regular folks. You German Car drivers better be ready to really pony up.

What prompted this post (read rant) is that the local news station (KPTV) has their reporter parked outside a gas station (service went away a long time ago) and every five to seven minutes, he comes on to say the same damn thing, "Gas prices are at an all time high and going higher..."

This is not breaking or any other kind of news. Anybody that hasn't been aware that gas prices have been going up dramatically for the last few years has probably been in a Coma.

I am wondering why the reporter is posted outside a gas station and not down at the State Capitol investigating this obvious fraud that is being perpetrated on the American people and what can be done to reverse it.

So far, everyone I talk to is so complacent I want to reach out and shake them. WAKE UP PEOPLE! It isn’t just affecting you at the pump, it will alter your very way of life! Everything you buy is going to start costing you more… … … A lot more, and soon!

Most people I talk to say, “Well, this is closer to where gas prices should be.” I say, “Based on what?” Their reply is usually weak at best.

I’ll always be the first to admit I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it seems to me if there is a shortage, the oil companies can’t make as much money because they don’t have the product to sell. WRONG! They just jack up the price at the pump and not only do they make record profits, they make obscenely high profits and what do you know, there’s all kinds of gas at the new higher price.

Well now they’re saying, the latest price hikes aren’t due to a “shortage of crude oil” or “lack of refineries” it's the sluggish economy – And yet, the oil companies are STILL making obscene profits. It’s good to see the oil companies doing their part to help the slumping economy. RIGHT!

One of the first things someone might say to me would be, “Greg, if you don’t like the high price of gas, don’t buy it.” Believe me, I buy as little as possible. I work out of my house, I consolidate trips and then on a motorcycle as often as possible. The problem is, I have to heat my home, eat and everything else normal folks do, and it’s all going to cost more – much more!

I always thought there were Monopoly laws that prevented cornering the market and jacking prices for a given commodity out of sight. Oh yeah – why there’s no Monopoly here. There are several different oil companies, all free to set the price for their products as they see fit to compete in the market place. BULLSHIT! The whole oil business is a ‘Good Ol Boys’ club. Where one goes, they all go. It has made them all very fat and very happy I’m sure, but they've become gluttons and once they got a taste for price gouging, they can’t get enough of it. The American consumer is really taking it on the chin. I just don’t understand why it appears no one is doing anything about it.

Like lemmings we just allow the oil companies to keep raping us at the pump without saying a word.

I am not ready to drop down to a lower standard of living just so oil companies can continue to make obscene profits, but I know that many Americans will have to. And, at some point I may not have a choice. You would think that alone would be enough to get our elected officials excited and involved, but it doesn’t seem to be.

Some say that it’s happening because President Bush is an oil guy. I’d say that’s a fair bet although not the only reason. I sure haven’t heard Hilary, Barack or McCain step up and say that they will get a handle on any of this. On the issue of jacking gasoline prices, it appears that those three are as bad as Bush.

I for one am sick to death of it. The American public is being held for ransom at the pump and nobody seems to care enough to do anything about it.

I guarantee you that we are getting screwed and the oil guys are laughing all the way to their off shore tax exempt bank accounts. You have to know that as long as we let them get away with this simultaneous screwing they will continue to think we are dumber than a box of hammers.

It’s time we let our elected officials know in a very loud voice that we’re done being patsies and if they don’t get serious and do something about this, they will soon find out how life in the private sector is.

While I'm at it, why are gas prices in the Portland Metropolitan almost .40¢ a gallon higher than most of the rest of the country?

As for our friends at the local Television and Radio stations, how about you go find a real story like, who is doing what to help curb this travesty and what citizens can do to help put a stop to it rather than repeating every 5 minutes what I already know by driving by any gas station.

On a somewhat related note, here's another thing we Americans have just let go by the wayside - SERVICE! Tell me why when I was paying .35¢ a gallon, I got my front and rear windows washed, headlamps and outside mirrors washed, battery, belts, hoses, coolant, engine oil, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, tire pressure and tread depth checked by several attendants and now that it is damn near $4.00 a gallon I can't even get a guy to wait on me in a reasonable amount of time let alone get my oil checked.

Another interesting little tidbit to ponder... Our friends at Costco that we know and trust to keep quality high and prices low, who clearly have the lowest gas prices in their areas (they scout the competition twice a day to make sure they are lower) still make .40+ cents net profit a gallon - Yes, I said net. My guess is that the Mom & Pop gas stations have lower (albeit not as diversified) overhead than a Costco Store. I remember when we were cutting a fat hog if we made .3¢ to .5¢ a gallon.

As far as we know, this is the first time man has inhabited this planet. If he was here ‘before’, he didn’t leave an owners manual so we’ve pretty much had to figure things out as we go. Over all, I think we’re doing pretty well as a species.

Yes, we have screwed a few things up – Some irreparably. This is what happens when you fly by the seat of your pants. Good Judgment comes from experience – Experience comes from Bad Judgment.

We now have a situation where in some cases we must choose the lesser of two evils. Ideally, I would choose to live without Nuclear Power and LNG. That’s just not practical.

Nuclear Power and Liquid Natural Gas are in the grand scheme, two of the cheapest and potentially plentiful energy sources available to us in the 21st century. Dollar for dollar they deliver more energy per buck / acre of land than anything else we have. Solar, wind, and soybeans are just not going to keep the lights on.

And, it doesn’t matter what you do, the tree huggers are going to bitch until the lights are off permanently, then they’ll bitch because they don’t have any lights.

Ask for Nuclear, they bitch about the waste, LNG the potential danger, wind farms are unsightly as are solar farms. I’m just sick to death of these Anarchists whining about everything and offering solutions to nothing.

A Great Day in Salem - 02/04/2008

Monday, February 4th was just about as great as it could possibly be at the Oregon State Capitol!

I arrived a little later than I wanted, but there were a lot of supporters for the Respect For Law Act - Oregon State Initiative Petition #112 there when I arrived around 11:50 am.

We (Oregonians For Immigration Reform) had reserved the Capitol steps for our demonstration, but in spite of the rules that govern that particular piece of property, our 'friends' the Criminal Aliens decided to show up in droves.

I say 'friends' because they couldn't have helped OFIR any more if they'd been collecting signatures for Initiative #112 themselves. Because of the Criminal Alien's rather large presence, practically every citizen that had business inside the Capitol came over to sign the petition before going in!

How great is that? - I know we could not have collected as many signatures without them.

The weather even cooperated with us for the most part.

Mr. Ed Whelan Summarily Discharged

WOW - What a shock! What a low class action followed by a high class act.

Ed Whelan, 30-plus year veteran of KOIN News, is no longer with the station. Monday afternoon he was called into a meeting and told his contract would not be renewed. He was given the option of going home immediately, but Whelan went ahead and finished the 6 pm and 11 pm newscasts, packed up 30 years of stuff into a box, and went home. He hasn't been back.

There are other blogs and information sites out there that detail this story better.

I just want to say that with KATU (Fisher Broadcasting) pandering to Illegal Aliens with their Univision franchise and KOIN being just stupid with actions like firing Mr. Whelan, I'm running out of local stations that I'm willing to watch.

Ed Whelan is a one-of-a-kind gem in the cookie cutter world of broadcast journalism. When a station is fortunate enough to have someone like Mr. Whelan (loyal, dedicated and entertaining) working for them, they should covet him not fire him.

Shame on KOIN -

All KATU has to do is dump their Univision franchise and acknowledge their error in supporting such an anti-American endeavor to get me back as a viewer. I don't know what KOIN will have to do.

I’m a little upset right now. It seems that Fisher Broadcasting also owns the local Univision affiliate in Portland, which broadcasts out of the KATU studios on Sandy Boulevard.

They ran their first local 6:00 pm newscast in Spanish this evening. It is sad that they also own KATU Channel 2 in Portland because I used to enjoy several programs on K-2 including the news. But as Fisher broadcasting has decided to be part of the problem instead of the solution to Illegal Immigrants, I can no longer in good conscience watch K-2 or knowingly patronize their sponsors.

When I ask the logical question, “Why no Japanese or Russian local newscasts?” The obvious answer is, those and every other race don’t have the population numbers that Hispanics have in America. Let’s examine that for just a second and ask the question, “Why is that?” The answer is, no other race of people is pouring into and over populating the United States as fast as Mexicans are. Unfortunately, they are not coming to America legally, ipso facto Fisher Broadcasting by way of their ownership of the local Univision affiliate and catering to the local Hispanic population are promoting illegal behavior. I can’t condone such poor business practices.

It is clear Fisher Broadcasting doesn’t care how they make their money. Fisher Broadcasting is a Seattle based company that apparently is unaware of what a negative impact criminal aliens have had on us in Oregon.

Just go to www.wesupportamerica.org/dl/ and see what is generating the big crime numbers in our region.

Please look at the list below. I would urge you to boycott those Television and Radio stations in your area that are owned by Fisher Broadcasting.

Sleepy Ted just doesn't 'get it'!

Let's establish one undisputable fact. Food Stamps are by design supposed to HELP (subsidize) with food purchases, not be the sole source of food.

What ol’ Sleepy Ted isn’t taking into consideration is this; While it is difficult to buy food for a week for 1 person on $21.00 a week, it’s easier to pool your resources and buy for 2. Add a few rug rats and all of the sudden you have as much money as most conscientious shoppers spend on groceries. Throw in a few coupons and boom, you’re eating just fine.

Living on food stamps isn’t supposed to be easy or the sole source of your food. If you’re an out of work Software Engineer and can’t find a job in that field, 7/11 and Burger King are hiring. $10.00 an hour + benefits. Put a few dollars in with the food stamps instead of in the crack pipe and you’ll eat well. I know it pisses you off because your ‘hard earned’ cash should go for drugs or booze, but that’s the breaks.

What you can’t buy are the expensive ready to heat and eat Kashi / Lean Cuisine / Stouffers. You actually have to prepare meals instead of sitting in front of the tube feeding your face.

If they raise the amount per person, you’d have to buy fewer cans of coffee to take back and get cash, to buy beer. That would be more convenient I suppose.

It’s another day in the asylum – Some guy (Nicholas Ramón Onuskanich) shooting at police for no apparent reason at SE 39th & Holgate. No doubt the taxpayers will be sued for not allowing the shooter to achieve his full potential. Clearly another idiot meth user.

Christine Coffman apparently killed her 4-year-old Step Grandson because her and the child’s Grandfather were having marital problems and she wanted to get back at him. I’m sure that must make sense on some intellectual level I haven’t yet aspired to.

And the best – Two guys that look like they could be the inspiration for the hit NBC show ‘My Name is Earl’ stole crap from a City of Portland fenced equipment facility including radios that were on the proprietary City of Portland frequency so when they were talking back and forth, “Hey dude, let’s go to the Plaid Pantry and grab some chow” of course the police were waiting for them. 43-year-old Allan Grabinski was arrested in a sting operation conducted by Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and KPTV along with other Oregon law enforcement agencies.

He was unfortunate enough to even have his parents up in Beaverton visiting from Roseburg at the time of the arrest. I’m sure they are pleased. His kids will be ridiculed at school, he will most likely lose his job with the State of Oregon, In all honesty, I don’t know if he is currently married, but chances are if he is, he won’t be much longer.

While I’m all for Justice, I’m not sure these televised stings are the way to get it.

Should Mr. Grabinski have been arrested? Based solely on what I’ve seen on KPTV and KPTV.COM, yes. But, I assure you there is more to the story than we’ve seen. A good attorney will point that out.

As mentioned many times on this web site, we are a nation of laws. While Mr. Grabinski may have been in violation of laws that pertain to pedophilia, as near as I have seen, all they have him on is intent.

Our constitution says innocent until proven guilty. In these televised sting operations, it would appear that the arrestee is caught, charged and convicted right in front of the entire viewing audience.

The fact is, some of these people do not end up being convicted for a number of reasons. I’m not here trying to say whether that’s good or bad. My point is, whether a guy is a pervert or really is the pizza delivery guy that’s just a little too stupid to articulate a reasonable explanation as to why he was bringing the 15-year-old girl pizza, national broadcasts of what is presumed to be happening should cease.

At the very least, I can see where these local broadcasts will contaminate the eventual jury pool. That alone should be reason enough to stop them.

Oh oooh, I can already hear you, “Dude! What about Freedom of the Press?”

In this day and age when information is dispensed instantaneously, it seems that a little thing they used to call ‘common sense’ went out the window. If the press gave a rats ass about a guy getting a fair trial or how blurting out this information might destroy his family even though they don’t have a clue if he’ll be found guilty, “Freedom of the Press” might mean something.

It would seem that in most cases all they care about doing is getting something sensational in print or on air faster than the next guy. If there are some ‘discrepancies’ we’ll do a retraction tomorrow on page 3 or at the end of the 11:00pm broadcast.

Once convicted I have no problem with showing the arrest, any text communication or any other evidence that lead up to the arrest and conviction.

A sharp attorney is going to argue entrapment and probably win. The sad thing is, it will probably be with the most vicious and vile of offenders.

As I see it, when these situations are televised, the alleged perpetrator’s family become victims as well as the ‘actual’ victim. I know, the argument is, “Well I guess he should have thought of that before he decided to do whatever it is he did.”

Yes, but a victim is a victim and while the ‘actual’ victim is granted anonymity if they request it, the alleged perpetrator’s family can be granted no such thing in these televised incidences.

And what if the alleged perpetrator is found not guilty? Does he immediately get his job back, the love and respect of the community he served back, his wife and family back? How about the lives of his wife and children? Do the schoolmates take back the hurtful ridicule? I suspect it just continues.

To hurt a child is wrong, but there are many ways in which children get hurt. In the case of Mr. Grabinski, there was no ‘actual’ victim except for his children. While Mr. Grabinski certainly appears to be guilty, KPTV is not without a certain amount of culpability in the hurting of Mr. Grabinski’s children.

Hurting Mr. Grabinski’s children for the sake of a few poultry ratings points is unforgivable. It’s almost like saying a local television station can be (not solely responsible for but) party to possibly marring Mr. Grabinski’s children for life and that’s ok but for Mr. Grabinski to arrange a date with someone that as it turns out doesn’t exist should be a jailable offence.

Whenever possible, we should do our best to protect the children and not go out of our way for sensational reasons and hurt the innocent. Sadly, in the case of Mr. Grabinski, his children would have been hurt soon enough, just not so hard, fast and publicly.

In defense of the press. I have what is now an old saying that I believe I coined, “If you don’t want people to think you do (or did) something, don’t engage in behavior that might lead them to think you did.”

In other word, if you don’t drink and don’t want people to think you drink, don’t be seen coming out of bars. If you don’t molest and serve alcohol to little girls, don’t put yourself in a position where someone might get that idea.

Anyone who does is at least guilty of poor judgment.

We are a nation of laws. We should also be a nation of conscience and fair play.

I found out yesterday that my younger Stepbrother has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Possibly the second worse place to get cancer. Second only to Pancreatic Cancer whose survival rate is generally 1 year give or take.

What makes this a close second is that it has already invaded his Lymphatic system which is like the Internet for the body and allows cancer cells to travel almost anywhere in the body they choose to go. Wherever they plant themselves, a new cancer grows.

Surviving Lung Cancer is still a pretty remarkable thing even today. Couple that with the Lymphatic Cancer and the future is bleak. If he really fights and does what the doctors tell him to do, they give him as much as 2 to 5 years which seems pretty vague to me. If he does nothing they seem to agree that 6 months to a year is about all he has. That sadly, seems much more defined.

This little rant of mine is clearly off topic for this site, but the nice thing about having a blog is that you can rant about any damn thing you want no matter how vile it may be.

Where this does come back around to the topic is his future level of comfort and care especially when he goes into the hospital for chemotherapy.

For most, chemotherapy is a cruel, debilitating and emotionally draining process to go through to say the least. My Stepbrother will be going through some very intense chemotherapy in the very near future. He will be nauseated worse than he's ever been in his life, he will be weak, his hair will fall out, he will have mood swings and the last thing he needs are delays and an uninviting atmosphere, but chances are that's what he'll be faced with.

As he sits there waiting to go have this horrendous procedure, he'll be greeted by running screaming, out of control little children. Our speaking to them won't do any good, because they don't speak English and naturally their parents couldn't care less about what their misbehaving little brats are doing or how they annoy the other patients.

Let's not forget the almost certain delays from the seemingly constant yet somehow unexpected heavy load of Oregon Health Plan patients that inevitably show up because the anchor baby spit up and the very young mommy doesn't understand that babies spit up now and then. It's part of their charm. Or there was another injury accident caused by an uninsured person of possibly Latino heritage that was seen running from the scene, or a knife fight or shooting or domestic dispute that got violent or a rape or attempted murder. And, somehow these people seem to get shoved to the head of the line. I watched it happen 2 nights in a row up at our own St. Vincent's Hospital.

My wish is that my Stepbrother gets the kind of first class health care in a prompt and courteous manner that his health care insurance dollars are paying for, but alas the words still ring in my head, "We're doing the best we can with the number of people we have to see."

The overwhelming answer is: Not just no, but hell no, because when Caucasian folks try to do anything that just applies to them or even imagine soliciting help from other races to promote a white only anything, they are labeled racists. The white male is now the number one most discriminated against person in the work place because of Affirmative Action. Minorities and women must be considered for employment ahead of white males in larger companies.

Ah but who's fault is it? It's the white guys! More specifically, the Baby Boomer white guys! In our haste to make sure the world knows we're not the generation that turned out the likes of Byron De La Beckwith and that we believe in equality for all, we've placed ourselves at the bottom of the equality pile.

Unfortunately, nobody is coming to our rescue as we have gone to so many. The overall attitude seems to be, "Hey Whitey put himself there, let him dig his way out."

Just to help slow the madness, I'd like to see an end to The United Negro College Fund, Latino Career Fairs and so on and just have College Funds and Career Fairs. Bring your "A" game and let the jobs and education fall where they may. If you have the same drive, ambition and love of America as the next guy, you have an equal chance of getting that education and ultimately that job.

If on the other hand you are lazy and into shortcuts, like entering this country illegally, or are only interested in what this country can give you and not giving back - You lose!

Really, a bunch of inflammatory comments are not what’s needed. Logic and intellect are now more scarce than ever in both our state and national government and we can use all we can get. It’s time for the Republican Party to take an exciting new direction.

The Republicans need to present their ideas in a way that the guy on the street can understand like the Democrats do, “You say you’re poor, we’ll give you free stuff.”

Anybody can understand that and who wouldn’t vote for someone that promises free food when you’re hungry?

What the common man on the street doesn’t seem to get is that as soon as he’s back on his feet and makes a nickel, Teddy wants to take 3/5 of that nickel. It doesn’t take long to understand that it’s better to be poor and just be ‘on the dole’ than work like a slave and still be poor.

The Republicans need a way to show the guy on the street that long term planning and fiscal responsibility are what’s best for everyone. A very difficult task for sure, but I believe we can do it.

We clearly did not have an adequate plan going in to this election cycle. The party wasn’t behind one gubernatorial candidate early enough in my humble opinion. The effect that Mary Starrett would have was underplayed and as much as we loved Ron, he came across as a bit of a one trick pony.

As for Teddy, he didn’t really do anything last term I believe mainly because he didn’t have the horse power to get all of the taxes pushed through that he wanted. As any good manager knows, the best way to fix something is to throw money at it. That of course would be more of YOUR tax money. Well, he has the horsepower to get in your wallet now.

I know it would be a wonderful world where everybody gets to sit around and eat the government cheese, but somebody has to get off their ass and make it.

A good percentage of our great country’s best and brightest have served in the military.

Whenever a young person asks me for direction, the military is among my first options. There is no question that serving in the military accelerates one’s maturing process and enhances critical thinking skills.

I know countless folks that have come from less than affluent backgrounds that have gone on to accomplish great things that would have been beyond their reach without the assistance they received as part of the military.

I know of a particular case where a person knew what he wanted in life, knew what it would take to achieve those goals and also knew he was not a particularly motivated person. In other words, he knew he needed someone to kick him in the butt now and then to keep him on track.

The military was the answer in spades. Today, that person has a life anyone would envy – Pretty smart eh Mr. Kerry?

It was a great day to be in Salem Oregon today unless you were an illegal alien or Ted Kulongoski.

There was a lot of horsepower on the steps of the Capitol building including Mike Erickson (Congressional Candidate for the 5th District), Mary Starrett (Gubernatorial Candidate for the Constitution Party), Lars Larson (KXL Talk Show Host), Jim Ludwick (President of Oregonians for Immigration Reform), Rick Hickey (Vice-President of Oregonians for Immigration Reform) as well as a host of other candidates and speakers all of which showed up in support of the new Oregonians for Immigration Reform billboard that was recently unveiled in Salem and immigration reform.

There was teriffic news coverage of the event. Lars Larson broadcast his entire show from the capitol steps today. No small feat considering he was in the shade most of the time and it was a balmy 37 degrees with a pretty fair breeze at times.

I watched the Gubernatorial debate last night. I have to say there is a part of me that almost feels bad for Ted Kulongoski. Poor Teddy kept getting confused by logic and factual information.

Every time Mr. Saxton would answer a question logically and with cold facts, Teddy’s rebuttal was prefaced with a defeated look and rhetoric that amounted to, “Oh Yeah?”

The one positive thing I can say for Teddy that came from the last two debates I’ve watched is, he is consistent. Not a trait one usually finds in a Liberal. In both debates, Teddy kept letting us know that he would continue to do the kind of great things in his second term that he accomplished in his first.

I’ll pass thanks.

Oh, by the way, that part of me that almost feels bad for Ted? That would be the piece of skin between my big toe and the second toe on my left foot. I think I'll go soak it in some Ebsom Salts like I would any other irritation I had on my foot.

For now I'll just say that I'm very pleased to see that with the obvious exception of the Salem Statesman Journal and the Eugene Registered Guard all the major news papers in the state have endorsed Ron Saxton for Governor.

When Mary Starrett was on KATU I enjoyed watching and listening. I believe she is intelligent, she is articulate and from what I heard from her on the Lars Larson show today (6/5/06), she's not afraid to mix it up with the big dogs.

Fact is, she might even be the right person for the job - just not right now!

Until just a couple of days ago, I didn't know Ms. Starrett had any political ambitions.

There is not a doubt in my mind that she has precisely what it will take to ruin Ron Saxton's chances of winning the Governor's race.

The really sad part for Mary is, when she ruins Saxton's chance, she doesn't win, she loses BIG TIME! Saxton is for most of the same things Mary is.

Yes, Mary Starrett is intelligent and articulate, but I think she needs to have her vision checked. It would seem that all she can see is her political future, which she believes to be ahead of her and she is unable to see the damage her candidacy will do to Oregon.

I don't know that this state can survive another 4 years of Sleepy Ted and that is exactly what will happen if Mary doesn't come to her senses.

Have you ever been so angry that you just can't shut up?

I fax, call email and actually send letters to Oregon state representatives, Wyden, Smith, Wu and even the occasional Earl Blumenauer. No point in sending anything to our current Governor because... ... ... it's Ted.

I send all of these faxes and make the phone calls and write the letters in hopes of making a difference and perhaps in some small way make my little piece of America a better, safer place to live.

Now and then I get the ceremonial "Thank you for your interest in your state government" letter. It feeds my hungry shredder, but that's about it.

After all the back patting and let's not forget the "I'LL DO EVERYTHING I CAN" statement from Senator Smith, both he and Ron Wyden voted in favor of S. 2611.

I went to my NumbersUSA board and pulled up a prepared fax on the subject of their vote and started constructing a 'PS' like I usually do, but it got out of control - Or maybe not. Here it is:

You both astound me. What part of “This is a terrible thing for our country” don’t you understand? Are you so misguided by you own personal greed and desires that you care nothing for this country or about the incredible mess you’re leaving to your children and grandchildren?

To hell with granting ‘Amnesty’ or having a ‘Guest-worker’ Program – Please, just forget about giving it a name for a minute. Just allowing millions of criminal aliens to remain in this country along with the non-productive members of their rather large families and extended families and receive services that MY tax dollars are paying for is the very definition of insanity. Our country is headed to financial ruin fast enough without adding this incredible burden to the already overtaxed citizen's shoulders.

I know the argument that if we just open the doors, their best and brightest will come. I’m sorry, that doesn’t hold water Senators. Mexico’s best and brightest came here years ago legally! All your getting now is Vicente Fox’s child rapists, murderers and drug runners.

I just got back from the Rally protesting Illegal Immigration (and I guess protesting / protesting Illegal Immigration) in downtown Portland at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Naturally I was on the side of protesting Illegal Immigration.

While numbers were thin on both sides, I was somewhat shocked at the number of young clearly Caucasian people on the Pro-Illegal Immigration side. Their cry was a little disturbing as well. It was primarily “Anarchy Now” – WHAT? Ok, did you kids get off the bus at the wrong stop?

Yes, that’s right! The big red A on a black background, the hoodie / mask, all dressed in black – But wait, that’s the typical dress for your basic Downtown Portland youth anyway. Probably bored on a dismal Sunday afternoon with nothing to do and no imagination to think of something constructive to do, they decided to join in to whatever it was going on at the Northeast corner of Pioneer Courthouse Square.

I have to wonder why they feel they need to hide behind the masks. I know why the Illegal aliens do. If they get their picture taken they may be exposed as an Illegal Alien, but these kids I’m sure are legally here and are entitled to those things to which all citizens of the United States are entitled.

It was humorous when the Mexicans decided it was time for a chant of some kind, the Caucasian kids had to wait to hear what they were saying and do their best to try to repeat it.

I guess the most disturbing thing about all of it was that they were there with their Anarchy flags, signs, hooded masks, standing up for something they clearly do not understand and I and several other Patriots are there fighting for a better America that these poor misguided individuals will inherit.

The following is a fax I sent to Mr. Jim Krahn of the Dairy Farmers of Oregon and Mr. Jay Gordon of the Washington State Dairy Federation in response to the letter written by Mr. Krahn and Mr. Gordon to their "Fellow Dairy Producers" in regards to the upcoming May 1st work walk-out by the Illegal Alien work force. I am appalled that you and your organization condone the blatant violation of the laws of the United States of America by hiring and backing criminal immigrants from Mexico.

Rally - April 22nd

The folks that gathered at the Mexican Consul General's office on April 22nd to protest the invasion of Illegal Aliens into America were well organized, peaceful and respectful of the neighborhood. We got our point across (again) and garnered the attention of hundreds of motorists and MAX / bus riders.

Kudos to all of you that attended and my personal thanks. It is just terrific when a group of like-minded people come together to defend a just cause as important as this.

Please take note of this and do your part to support it…

BOYCOTT MEXICO

There is no question that we have been invaded by millions of illegal aliens. Mexican flag waving marchers by thousands have shown their disdain for our laws, our flag and our sovereignty. There is no question that the government of Mexico has aided, abetted and encouraged the invasion.

Advocates for illegal aliens have set May 1st as a day in which they will boycott American businesses, walk off the job and leave school. They want to try to cripple America in order to intimidate Congress into giving amnesty to current illegal aliens and to further eliminate any boarder between the United States and Mexico.

We need to stand up for America! Beginning May 5th we urge every American citizen to boycott Mexican restaurants, Mexican beer, Mexican vacations and trips into Mexico.

The boycott will last until our borders are secured and the Mexican government fully joins in stopping illegal immigration across our southern border.

Only when Congressman Tom Tancredo verifies that our borders are secure and that the Mexican government is cooperating will we end the boycott.

Buy American beer, vacation in Hawaii, South America, Europe, Canada, eat in Italian, Thai, French or Indian restaurants. It is a small sacrifice to make for our children’s future.

It dawns on me that our problem with Illegal Mexican Aliens is that we're trying to deal with them like Americans. They hate us, curse us behind our backs and shout ridiculous slogans like, "We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us." They hold up signs that say 'La Raza' (The Race), and generally behave in an unacceptable manner for a group of people that would (allegedly) like to someday become part of our great country.

We have been poor hosts! We have tried to bear their culture in mind when dealing with them, but alas, we have overlooked how Mexico deals with Illegal Aliens.

Prineville Town Hall Meeting

I just got home from Prineville.

I rode a motorcycle 7 hours, 322 miles (up over Mt. Hood) to hear Senator Gordon Smith talk for 1 hour today. 4/12/2006

I will say the Junior Senator is much more at ease and in his element when speaking to a group of people from Central Oregon than when he’s speaking to… … …Lars.

Senator Smith didn’t waste any time jumping into the topic du jour. Once the gratuitous back patting stopped he went right to the subject of Illegal Immigration. He opened by saying that there is nothing right now that has Washington’s ear more than Illegal Immigration.

To hear him speak, one would assume he is steadfastly against illegal immigration. He is! The problem is, his solution. I believe he and others think that making the current batch of illegals “Presto – No longer illegal” is the solution. Unfortunately, I was never able to get called on to address this with him. Throughout the entire Town Hall Meeting he used a lot of political “speak”. Phrases like, “I am completely against that and I’ll do everything I can to Blah Blah Blah…” and “I know I’m going to upset half of you and make the other half happy.”

He never touched on sanctions for employers that hire illegals, or criminal prosecution for illegals, deportation or the like.

He did say that he has voted for the fence between Mexico and the U.S., and will again when it comes up. It is his belief that the illegals will just go to Canada and cross the Canadian border into the U.S.

As we only had an hour (actually less Senator Smith was about 15 minutes late), I would say he spent more time on the subject of Illegal Immigration than any other.

Overall, I give him 2 soggy slices on the Milk Toast scale. It really appeared to me to be just “face-time” with his constituency.

I will say, the guy is good. He’d say something and initially I would think, “Hey this guy’s on the team!” Then I’d think about how he said what he said, and it turns out, he didn’t say anything one way or the other! One old guy that looked to be about 90 asked Senator Smith, “Hey, can’t you just answer a question without making a speech out of it?” Probably the highlight of the day.

The bad news is, if you’re in the back of the room with a camcorder, tri-pod, briefcase and printed literature like his grades and other statistics on Immigration reform laid out on a table for people to take it seems he won’t call on you no matter what you do, because you might be someone that knows something.

I videotaped the entire meeting. I will cut the portion dealing with the issue of Illegal Immigration and post it to a Web Site for download and post the URL as soon as the link is up.

I just returned from Senators Wyden and Smith’s offices in downtown Portland.

I have to say, for a Monday when there should have been quite a bit of activity, it was very quiet.

I first went to Senator Wyden’s office in the Federal Building. Other than unloading my coat and briefcase at the metal detector I had no trouble getting in and up to his office. I walked in and other than Senator Wyden’s receptionist, it appeared as though I was the only one in there.

I very politely asked if I could leave some information for her to forward onto the Senator and she took the information and said she would see to it that he received the literature.

I left the office and went outside. I had brought my new DV Video camera with me and thought, Hmmmm there is nobody here, I should take some footage of the lack of people in the courtyard.

Just a heads up for future reference… Don’t take pictures on/of Federal Property. They get cranky about that sort of thing. It didn’t even cross my mind that taking some video of the flora and fauna was a stupid idea. It was. Thankfully there were 2 ICE officers and a security guard there to let me know it was a bad idea. IN FACT, it took them ½ hour to get the message across while they ran my personal information through Denver. I wasn’t real happy about that, but what can you do?

The I.C.E. Police were very nice and explained that they were just trying to make sure people were following the rules – REALLY? HEY! ME TOO! And at that point, I began to get into detail as to why I was there and oddly enough had one guys undivided attention. The conclusion was that the I.C.E. Police pretty much feel the same way we do (or at least these guys did), they’re just not at liberty to proclaim their personal feelings on the subject to the world.

Undiscouraged, I trundled on to Senator Smith’s office. They don’t make it much easier to get in there either, but again I had little trouble finding his office and again I talked to a nice receptionist that assured me the letters / information I had would be given to Senator Smith.

I spent a certain amount of time looking for others that had come to inform the Senators of our position on Illegal Immigration, but found nobody.

Apparently the lunch hour isn’t the best time to go to a senator’s office.

Let’s see what happens.

Some good news from Costco.

It turns out Costco is very careful about hiring. They background check everyone and no Illegal Aliens are allowed to work there under any conditions.

When Costco hires a contractor to do additions, paving or landscaping or anything, the contractors are required to provide documentation on their employees certifying that they are in this country legally.

Also, if they are not a union contractor, they are required to pay their employees a comparable wage.

The level of government waste, abuse and just plain stupidity is too great for me to keep up with and that’s just on the local level.

Every now and then I have to say something or I'll explode.

Today’s “Object de Scorn” ... ... ... None other than the OHSU tram (which rhymes so well with scam).

Some moron up at OHSU decided that an overhead tram would help solve parking issues up on Pill Hill.

They conducted a study to see what kind of support such an idea might garner. They found they had minimal support at best. But this is Portland Oregon, so we press forward and get bids to build this thing.

Winning bid, $15,000,000.00. So now we’re going to build this tram that the majority of people that have to pay for it, will never ride and didn’t want in the first place.

To me, that’s like telling a guy, “Hey, I’m going to punch you in the face. It’s going to cost you $15,000,000.00, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Be prepared to pay up!”

Now remember, we’re in Portland Oregon where a firm construction bid of $15,000,000.00 means … … … NOTHING!

So we (the taxpayers) are now looking at $55,000,000.00 if there’s any hope of finishing this thing. Apparently there is no penalty to the winning contractor for being SO far off with his bid. That throws up a little red flag.

On top of our initial cost, (did I mention this is Portland Oregon?) once this albatross is built, it will require a staff to run and maintain it. Just as with MAX, this is a formula for large chunks of lost revenue and like MAX you can bet your hobby horse that here in Portland Oregon, we will find a way to run that bad boy at a significant deficit.

The new “threat” is if we stop this project now it will cost the taxpayer’s $20,000,000.00. Yeah, so? That beats the hell out of $55,000,000.00 plus large daily lost revenue upon completion, plus yearly operating expense. BAIL!

Just a heads up to Randy Leonard and Eric Sten et al., when I entrust my investment counselor with my money, he knows it’s his ass if he looses it. When I entrust government officials with my tax money, I feel the same way. I like to see a quality return on my money not how fast a group of idiots can squander it.

Best be packing your bags boys, your rein of stupidity isn’t going to last much longer. I believe the voters have had just about enough.

The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend. Hmmmmmmmmm Maybe, but not always I suspect. There is no doubt that it is desirable for the United States to have an Ally in the Middle East. Having an Ally that is wealthy and a great business partner is extremely desirable.

I hear talk about the UAE raising the price of a barrel of crude now that we nixed the 6-port deal. I know a lot of people get nervous about that, but how many times do we have to be told, most of our crude comes from Venezuela. The UAE knows that raising the price of a barrel of crude oil will affect their non-USA customers causing them undeserved angst, and not really hurt us. It doesn’t make sense that they’d do that in retaliation for the failed port operation sale. If we had any brains, we’d be pumping Mexico dry to pay for all the health care we give their Illegals, but that’s a different topic.

I know that on the books, the UAE wants to see the total destruction of Israel. While I’m not Jewish, I do have some Jewish friends, which take exception to that sort of thing. I don’t like to see my friends upset. While we’re at it, if we dust off the old books and have a hard look, we find that the folks of the UAE would like to see pretty much everybody that doesn’t believe spiritually the same as they do gone. That means me, and probably you.

Before they discovered that their crude oil was worth so damn much money (which was really just a few decades ago), that’s the sort of thing that occupied most of their thinking. Now that they have obscene amounts of money, their thinking goes more like, “Israel, yea I’d like to see them gone, but look what I bought in New York!”

Now they think more about being part of the global economy and making more money. As it turns out, you give these guys a little education and they become shrewd business people. I think that’s respectable. Off subject a little, have you see some of their modern architecture? Wow!

If we look back through time, we see that most conflicts / wars etc., were started over religion. “My God is better than your God.” Most religions have learned to get along with one another over time. That doesn’t mean that wording in a particular book mysteriously changed over night, it means intelligent, thinking people determined that it was impractical to keep trying to destroy each other and more or less, agreed to disagree and now for the most part live virtually seamless, harmonious lives. I know the people of the United Arab Emerance may not quite be at the seamless harmony part of the story yet but remember, we’ve had centuries to make the change, they’ve only have a few decades.

I believe that we had the single largest knee jerk reaction in history. When I first heard of the 6-port deal, my knees jerked right up to my forehead. I couldn’t believe that MY PRESIDENT and his staff seemingly just gave the keys to 6 of our mainland based ports to these towel-headed, camel riding murdering thugs. After it was announced that Dubai Ports World had called off the deal, I, in my ignorant bliss went, “Wow, we really dodged a bullet on that one.”

After doing a little research, my relief turned to disappointment in myself and my fellow Americans that had thought the same way as I. We didn’t dodge a bullet we blew a great opportunity.

In the first place, if this was some great plan to take over the 6 ports in order to smuggle in a dirty bomb or several, I can think of several ways a guy might do it for a heck of a lot less money. It was alluded to on one of the evening news shows that now, even though Dubai Ports World doesn’t operate any ports in the United States, it does operate a large percentage of ports where ships are loaded and sent to the USA. Now because of the failed port deal, the UAE may want to retaliate by sending a bunch of containers loaded with god only knows what.

Oh come on – If they wanted to harm us, they certainly could have done it before now.

As I said earlier, Dubai Ports World is recognized world wide as a leader in Container Port Operations. That means jobs, revenue and taxes right here at home. Yeah, a certain (probably large) percentage of the profits will be going home and filling UAE coffers, but we’d have 6 ports run by a world class organization, no doubt bringing those ports up to their superior standards as opposed to letting them flounder or worse yet, be run by our government which runs… nothing very well.

Here’s another reality check for you. After witnessing all of the flak over the deal, it was Dubai Ports World that pulled the deal. We didn’t tell them to pack their camel and hit the road, I’m sure they became disenchanted with the whole thing and said forget it!

In their eyes they were trying to put together a mutually beneficial business plan with their Ally in the Middle East to further cement our relationship among other things I suspect.

For my initial take on the situation, I apologize to my President. Mr. Bush, you were right on the money (no pun intended) on this deal.

To the folks at Dubai Ports World, my sincere apologies. Sometimes we as a people are faster to act than to think.

I never accept ignorance as an excuse and neither should you. I do feel that the port deal was more or less sprung on the American People without any lead in or other information as to why this was a good idea. I don’t think anybody likes things of that magnitude just dumped in their collective laps without some finessing. Sometimes the President of the United States needs to be a great salesman. If you don’t finesse the prospective buyer, even though you may have the greatest product in the world, chances are, he won’t buy.

Again, my apologies for being something that I abhor.

This morning Chris Wallace was on the local Fox channel talking about this company, Dubai Ports World. Dubai Ports World is an United Arab Emirates company.

It seem that there is a deal in the works that allows Dubai Ports World to buy and control 6 major ports in the United States, those being:

Philadelphia
Miami
Newark
New Orleans
Baltimore and
NEW YORK CITY!

Here's the really exciting news - This deal apparently has the blesssing of the Bush administration - WHAT??

Let me get this straight - We want to turn all operations including PORT SECURITY over to a country that has vowed to destroy Israel.

Now just because these guys have built a Snow Ski Resort in the middle of the desert, doesn't mean they can be trusted with our national security. It's kind of like letting the Fox guard the Hen House.

I'm I going senile or didn't we all agree that potentially the best way to get a dirty bomb into this country was in a container? Now we're going to turn over our first line of defence to ... ... ... Oh C'mon! You've got to be kidding!

Dubai Ports World - Go ahead and check 'em out. I'm sure they're just a swell bunch of guys (and gals). They even have a "kids" area on their site.

Disappointed with the press - SURPRISE!

I have to say, I am very disappointed in the Eugene Register Guard story about Saturday’s event.

I was standing there when Daniel was being interviewed by Reporter Jim Feehan and he was very clear that we were there protesting ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION and didn’t in any way indicate that we were anti-immigration.

The story really reads like we were 40 ‘Nut Cases’ that decided to stand on the sidewalk and complain about something we knew nothing about.

Toward the end of the piece they uttered some vague references to Illegal immigrants but didn’t really tie it to the story.

Oh well, baby steps.

Feb 11, 2006 - Criminal Carousel

Where else can you go and have this kind of fun?

We had an outstanding turnout for today's festive Criminal Carousel. There was singing (sort of) and chanting and for the most part all of us children of the 60's would recognize the songs and the chants as they too were stolen from us.

I was pleased to see Rick from OFIR as well as Richard Sturm from am 1120 KPNW. We had good local media coverage.

I am concerned (read worried) that we have a much more difficult battle on our hands than at least I perceived.

After talking with some of the younger Illegals, it is clear to me that many of them are clueless as to what all the fuss is about. They are somehow convinced that this is their land and they are completely entitled to it - GRATIS!

I am beginning to get the feeling that at any time you could have Mexicans bursting down your door and either killing you or throwing you out of your own home without so much as second thought.

These people are criminals in every sense of the word and act accordingly.

Overall, I think we did some real good today, but we need to do more to get the word out.

Today I received an email from the American Family Association Chairman, Donald E. Wildmon, which is fine because I subscribe to their email newsletter. I believe for the most part we're on the same page.

I also believe that we should choose our battles and not just blather about the inconsequential, as it tends to distract from those important things that really need our support. The problem of Illegal Aliens comes to mind.

The topic of this urgent bulletin was, they need me and everyone I know to send a letter to NBC requesting they pull the April 13 episode of Will & Grace because it somehow offends Christians. I believe it only offends those Christians unfortunate enough to be born without a sense of humor and the ability to reason.

Is it just me, or does Donald E. Wildmon need to lighten up just a bit.

If we were talking about late term abortions, over population, Illegal Aliens and the like, you know I’m on board, but it’s a sit-com. Hello!

This is the last season for Will & Grace. They are done because they are done, not because of poor ratings. The show could probably go another 2 or 3 years because of it’s fan base, but they are hanging it up because they believe the show has run it’s course.

Will & Grace have dominated their time slot with edgy humor and unique plots that are not always my cup of tea, but I’m not their demographic. I support the show because I feel, if you don’t like it you can change the channel and I do. I think the average Will & Grace viewer is smart enough to understand that this show spoofs everything and everyone and harms nothing and no one. It has two straight guys playing gay guys – C’mon!

Another recent thorn in Donald’s side was NBC’s 'The Book of Daniel.' I watched a couple episodes of The Book of Daniel. I think if they’d named it something other than 'The Book of Daniel,' Donald E. Wildmon wouldn’t have gotten so worked up about it. I know Donald would like to think he and his organization had something to do with the cancellation of 'The Book of Daniel,' but as is happens, it was just a really lousy show. I watched (what I could of) a couple episodes to see what all the hub-bub was about. I found very little HUB and NO BUB whatsoever! It was clear this show was doomed to run out of gas fast. They had a good cast, but the plot just nose-dived.

Maybe if the Priest had been a Rabbi…

Former Colorado Governor Dick Lamm made this rather poignant speech at an immigration population conference a while back.

A friend emailed it to me today and reminded me what a great piece it is.

For your perusal...

Mr. Lamm said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that, 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.' "

Here is how they do it," Lamm said: "First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country." History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way, "The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy." Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans."

Lamm went on: Second, "To destroy America, invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds."

Third, "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently, "The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together." Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

Fourth, "I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school"

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. "E. Pluribus Unum" -- from many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'Unum,' we will balkanize America as surely as Kosovo.

Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or xenophobe' halt discussion and debate. Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."

Finally he said, "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book 'Mexifornia'. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."

People took advantage of free money - Really?

When I first heard that the federal government was going to dole out Pre-Paid VISA cards with a two grand limit on them or in some cases, cut checks or do wire transfers to the 'victims' of Katrina, I silently screamed to myself, "NO-GIVE ME BACK MY TAX MONEY-MY ELECTED OFFICIALS AND THEIR SUBORDINATES ARE CLEARLY TOO STUPID TO BE LEFT IN CHARGE OF MY MONEY!"

ANYONE that couldn't see that this little government 'perk' wasn't going to be massively taken advantage of by the usual suspects is blind, deaf, and dumb. And yet there they go shucking it out like pennies from Heaven. You don't have to currently be in Louisiana, you just have to say that you lived there during Katrina and that your home was destroyed. HEEEEEERRRRE's your money!

Well, the Portland media is reporting that the FBI is hot on the trail of some folks that have taken advantage of the Katrina cash and so far the state with the highest number of people committing Katrina fraud... ... ... It seems when asked what possible deterrent there was to keep people from committing this fraud a spokesperson said, "It's just not right." Oh OUCH! The Pain - please stop.

A Day at El Centro Cultural

It was later than I wanted it to be when I arrived at El Centro Cultural. At first I didn't see any familiar faces.

I drove around the block a time or two and finally parked on the south side of Adair across form the Community Center. As all eyes seemed to be upon me, so I decided to take a couple of pictures. Shortly thereafter, a few gentlemen approached me in my pickup and in their best English asked me if I had work. I told them no and they walked away.

I took another lap around the block and spotted Daniel and a few other folks on the northeast corner. I parked my truck and introduced myself. The couple Daniel was talking with was just leaving which left a total of four American Citizens on site to protest. This was around 10:00 am.

After just a few minutes, we ran into Jay (MAX Red Line) who hung with us for quite a while (thanks Jay). We took pictures of the Illegals coming and going. Oddly enough, many that were going, were going without their Matricula cards because they showed up without an appointment.

I got a sense that most people going into the center knew what they were doing was illegal. Most tried to NOT get their picture taken including the Counselor General -Too bad I got it. We were yelled at and told that if any of our pictures showed up in the paper or on a web site we would be sued. I don't know the name of the little princess that told us we would get sued, but she is the one that did all of the actual yelling today.

The Counselor General never made time to talk to us, but we did have a great conversation with a young man that is Mexican but IS a legal citizen of the United States, Yale educated and you could tell. He was working at the center as a volunteer. We asked him if it didn't bother him helping all of these illegals sneaking in the back door after he has gone through all the hoops necessary to enter this country legally and get an education and everything else this country has to offer. He stated that the (US) government needs to do something to make it so it ISN'T illegal for these people to come into our country. I just mentioned that would be the same as making smoking pot legal just because there are so many people doing it - Clearly a Yale Man.

Over all, it was a great experience for me. I believe we did some good, because we made a lot of people very nervous today.

I know Jay (MAX Red Line) has already put up a great piece about today and Daniel is working on his. I think I'll leave it to him to post the pictures we took. Go HERE to see what Daniel has done.

I have lived in an emotional time in this country's history. A time when speaking out against the government has become commonplace. So much so in fact, that at times its tough to know if the general public is even listening.

I've lived through the Viet Nam "conflict", riots on campus and at the beach. I've been a member of several unions when they were on strike and never stood in a picket line. Fact is, I've never stood in protest with a group of people, ever. I have let my beliefs be known through letters and phone calls and of course email. I'm not 100% sure why I never attended in protest any of these history altering events. I don't think I need to make any apologies for not attending as I did participate in my own way.

On Saturday, January 21, 2006 I WILL become a joiner. The level of importance is so significant that anything less than physical attendance on my part would not be acceptable.

My state government (the very same one that told me as a single parent with 4 children living in my home, to hit the road when I couldn't afford to heat my house or feed them adequately) wants to make it possible for criminals to vote, have driving privileges, free medical assistance, educational services and a host of other amenities that my children and I as natural born citizens of the United States of America were apparently not entitled to in our time of need.

If the fact that our state government is committing a crime by providing criminals with these services isn't enough to get you involved, please remember, they're using your (and maybe more importantly MY) tax dollars to do it!

I'm over 18 and I vote by God! Of course that doesn't mean a thing when those in power just circumvent the voting process by spending my hard earned tax money how they want instead of how I want. THEN they have the audacity to say our schools are under funded or they’re running short on another project (they’re sure the working people would approve of) like better roads.

Such is the classic case for our nationally recognized (by those with more money than brains) mass transit system MAX. At approximately $15,000.00 an inch for the west side Light Rail project, it boggles the mind, but we’ve been reassured that this is the way to go. It must be! I mean, my Government knows how stupid I am. I apparently don’t have the insight to see that initially spending that kind of money to build something most seemingly intelligent people oppose and then have it cost about 170% more to ride per person than they collect. Whew! There is some book keeping that is beyond my scope.

But let’s not dwell on the cost, let’s focus for a moment on the utility! When things suck like let’s just say bad weather. You know in your hearts and minds that when the weather is bad enough that you shouldn’t drive, MAX is there to take you to work or school, shopping or a show right? Oops – sorry.

No, that doesn’t work out too well either. It seems at a time when ridership should be up to the point where we only wish it was 24/7, you put a little ice on those electrical lines and presto MAX is out of business causing an even greater hardship.

MAX is such an awful idea that words escape me. Sadly, it is but one such project that seems to get ‘passed’ the voters instead of passed BY the voters.

I tried to explain my position to an occasional MAX rider the other day. He told me I had it all wrong. We didn’t cover all of the cost for MAX, the Federal Government picked up the Lion’s share! What the hell was I thinking? Oh, I know, I was thinking I pay FEDERAL TAXES too!

AIRBUS - Yes!

Jet Blue flight 292 landed safely yesterday at LAX with cockeyed nose gear.

As we all know the Airbus A320 landed safely yesterday evening, but it brought one thing to my attention that is a bit disturbing.

It seems this drama went on for hours while the plane flew around burning off fuel. Most airliners are capable of dumping fuel in an emergency. Seeing as the A320 was flying in the LA area, it certainly could have gone out over the ocean and dumped most of its fuel and returned to LAX to attempt landing.

In this particular instance, dumping fuel was not an immediate necessity. There was nothing wrong with the planes ability to fly. If there had been a situation where the plane had to get on the ground fast, and chances for a successful landing were less than optimal, the ability to dump fuel would have been crucial.

Another thought I had was this: If the plane was completely capable of flying, why didn’t they just continue on to JFK International where I’m sure they have every bit the safety and rescue ability that LAX has. That way at least when the plane landed the people would be where they needed to go and burning off the fuel would have accomplished something.

The overall reason for today’s blog is not to point out the petty (although the ability to dump fuel is a concern) rather it is to congratulate the Captain and Crew for an outstanding job well done. If in airline pilot training class they need a video of how to safely land a plane in that situation, video of that landing would be the bellwether example.

Also, big kudos to the fine folks at Airbus. Nobody would have bet that the landing gear structure would have stayed in place while dragging what was left of the tires and wheels, with weight on it at speed. Way to build ‘em guys (and gals)!

Here's the spin... ... ... No more waiting in line at DEQ! YEAH!

According to our friends at KPTV, starting next year, Oregon DEQ will introduce self-service kiosks and a new dashboard devise. The devise monitors your cars emissions system and relays that information to the state. If your car is polluting, you will receive an email and postcard from the state telling you to get your car fixed. You then have 45 days in which to get your car repaired.

Gosh that's exciting news!

There was no mention whether or not that’s going to be a voluntary program. They also didn’t mention if the dashboard devise was going to just be in new cars that came with the devise neatly mounted like some nice looking high tech unit in your dash or they were going to require you to mount it next to your dashboard Jesus and have it stick out like a sore thumb. Don't ask! Of course YOU have to pay for it. What? did you think this was New Orleans?

The deal is, if your car is a 1996 or newer, it already monitors all of that in a very efficient manner. By federal law, all vehicles in this country are equipped with a system affectionately called O.B.D. II or On-board Diagnostics second generation.

If there is a problem with your car’s emission system, you’ll know it. A malfunction indicator light comes on that says something like, “Service Engine Soon” or “Check Engine” (it varies by manufacturer) and you know there’s a problem. You don’t need a State of Oregon approved dashboard devise installed. You also don’t need a threatening email or postcard from the state telling you to get your car fixed.

This is just another example of the State of Oregon spending YOUR money on redundant systems and processes that are already being handled well by the private sector.

It has always been my position that the State of Oregon’s vehicle emission testing program was both a ‘jobs’ program and a way to extort more tax money from Oregon drivers without calling it a tax, ‘it’s a fee.’

The effectiveness of the program is marginal at best and certainly does not justify its existence. Sounds to me like Steady Teddy and the State of Vera just want to make life as difficult for hard working Oregonians as possible by adding this twist to the emissions program as well as trying to adopt California like emission standards.

But wait, there’s more! I believe this is another thorn in the side of Oregon drivers by the folks in Vera World to get us out of our cars and onto one of the liberal’s favorite pork projects, MAX.

They know when modern day emission control devises fail, it is most often a very expensive repair. If you’re driving a 10-year-old (or older) car, chances are you can’t just dip into your pocket and pull out the cash to do a $1500.00 or $2000.00 repair without sweating a bit. Otherwise, you’d probably be driving a newer car. And, a lot of times putting that kind of money into a 10-year-old car just isn’t smart. So there you are, you can’t fix the car you own and you can’t afford to buy a new one and a used car could have as many problems as the one you have now. What do you do? Ride MAX.

“Welcome aboard ladies and gentlemen! While riding MAX today, we’ll remove your brain and do our best to reprogram it to think that our idea of mass transit is the ‘way-to-go!’ And now that we’ve made it just too damn expensive for you to drive your own car, we’re sure you won’t mind pumping more money into MAX and the Tri-Met system. Enjoy the very long, tedious and potentially life threatening ride.

It is a sad day indeed when the President of the United States of America, the most powerful and magnanimous country in the world has to have a NOTE to go to the bathroom.

I would also like to point out that there is a certain amount of uncertainty in the note that is circulating as if to imply that he may need to confer to decide for sure whether or not he really does need a break.

I don't believe my President would be that indecisive. I think the note is a fraud!

It should be pointed out that the picture being circulated was taken using a telephoto lens and Photoshop to 'enhance' the picture so the alleged note could be read.

I believe there may have been more than clarification going on with the Photoshop.

Fortunately, our photographer was there and he got the real picture.

Oh man, this really chaps my ass!

LIBERAL U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton has declared the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional and issued a restraining order to keep it out of three Sacramento-area school districts.

It seems this brilliant legal decision stems from the efforts of Atheist Michael Newdow who as you probably know has been fighting to keep his name in the news because it makes him feel good. And oh yeah, he thinks because the words “Under God” are in the Pledge of Allegiance that his kid as well as everybody else’s shouldn’t have to say it.

Here’s a little suggestion Mikey, get the hell out of my country. It’s clear that you haven’t taken the time to even understand the pledge. The pledge doesn’t require you to pledge any allegiance to God, you’re pledging allegiance to the United States of America.

Oh, what’s that? Oh you’re concerned that the text of the Pledge of Allegiance requires acknowledgement that the United States of America is ‘Under God’. Hmmm – You got me there pal. How about, if it bothers you so much to say those two words, you just shut your yap for those two words then just pick up the pace right after.

For about 230 years people have been fighting and dieing to protect this, the greatest country in the world so people like you could say what’s on their mind without suppression or repercussion. Now you want to take that same right away from the majority of Americans that feel it is their right to say the Pledge of Allegiance just as it is written.

I am proud to say the Pledge of Allegiance just as it is written because I have great respect for those that have fought and died for this country. I have great respect for our forefathers that founded this country, mostly from very Christian backgrounds, which is why we have words like ‘Under God’ in the Pledge of Allegiance, why we have opening prayer in the Senate and House.

I don’t mind any of that. Its tradition, it grounds us as a nation.

While you might think, “This is just the view from another religious Right-winger,” consider this, I am, among many other things, an Agnostic but foremost, I am a flag waving, Pledge of Allegiance saying, these colors never run American. It is my privilege to live and work in this country and if saying ‘Under God’ is part of the Pledge of Allegiance, then I say it with pride.

Changing or omitting the Pledge of Allegiance would be like repairing the crack in the Liberty Bell. It’s the way it is and should remain.

Michael, if you disgree with me you have that right in this country, I just wish you’d do it from another.

What can Sleepy Ted Kulongoski be thinking?

Oregon’s Governor is supporting efforts to get Oregon’s vehicle emissions program more in line with that of California.

I can’t believe he (or at least anyone with their head properly screwed on) would consider adding such an incredibly expensive yet virtually worthless cost to owning a vehicle in Oregon at a time when fuel prices are completely out of control. He’s going to help make driving in Oregon a rich man’s luxury in a state where many poor hard working people need to drive to provide for their families.

Having been in the automotive repair industry for many years, I can tell you that vehicles with California emissions equipment on them are some of the most expensive to repair. Not only when the emission controls fail, but other repairs become more expensive because of the added difficulty in accessing components now hidden by certain emission control devises. Look it up in any labor time guide, “With California emissions – add .5”

When I’ve had occasion to test two similar late model cars, one with California emissions equipment, one without, the difference is very minimal and certainly not worth the up front cost at the time of purchase, let alone the long term cost.

Yes, once again ol’ Steady Teddy has opened his mouth without really considering all angles. And though this is the Oregon Billboard, I can still say shame on Christine Gregoire for thinking this was a good idea, but what can you expect?

What good is worldwide exposure if you don’t say what’s on your mind?

With respect to whatever god you worship and acknowledging that it is your right to do so, let’s get ready to ruffle some feathers.

As I mentioned, I am a Populationist. I am not a Rhodes scholar by any stretch, but I don’t believe you have to be to see the writing on the wall. I saw it over 30 years ago. What you do have to do is acknowledge that writing and do something about it. Be responsible, take action.

I have 1 biological offspring by choice. At this time in my life it is likely that having even one child was a selfish thing to do. While his life to date hasn’t been too effected by the growing number of people on the planet, it will be in the coming years.

We are in a conundrum without a real solution at this time in our planet’s history. We have abused our natural resources and in spite of the fact that most intelligent people know that there are a finite amount of resources on the planet, we continue to populate it with more and more people.

GENERALLY, Intelligent people have fewer or no children at all, knowing that overpopulating the planet is not right for a lot of reasons. The children that Intelligent people have tend to be intelligent, well-educated children, but sadly their numbers are dwindling.

On the other hand, the poor, drug affected, criminally minded, under or uneducated tend to make babies like there's some sort of a contest to see who can have the most. These people GENERALLY produce more uneducated, criminally minded offspring with no regard for society or the future of the planet.

There is another factor contributing to this monumental problem. The religions that continue to support the creation of large families with the view the ‘God’ will provide. Well here’s a little news flash, God isn’t making this planet any bigger or replenishing the natural resources that we have drained off.

Approximately 10 years ago I read a study that showed that had we gone to zero population growth globally at that time, we would have about fifty years until this planet was in a serious, irreversible water shortage. So much so that there will be global anarchy much like we’ve seen in New Orleans. I don’t have to tell you, we didn’t go to zero population growth. Fact is, we grabbed a lower gear and continued to increase the herd at a record pace.

I try to appeal to the intelligent among us to come up with a solution, but the fact is, the logical solutions are seriously frowned upon by large religious groups that also vote. Furthermore, anyone suggesting such tactics is called a Nazi.

I am constantly amazed that instead of doing the right thing, our leaders just do what the polls say the people want even if that means the certain destruction of our planet.

When I say destruction of our planet, what I really mean is the total annihilation of all life on the planet. This planet has been here in space for many thousands of years before Man walked on it. It will be here long after we have successfully killed ourselves and every other living creature on it.

It will spin in space lifeless, slowly replenishing itself over the course of many thousands of years until some other species takes up residency. Hopefully they will be more intelligent and intuitive than we.

I am a middle-aged man so I don’t expect to live to see the worst that it will get. If I were 30 years old or younger, I would be seriously concentrating on a solution because if we don’t do something soon, there’s going to be some real unpleasantness.

Hint: Desalinization plants are not the answer. If you start sucking up the ocean you’re going to see some real weather, climate and habitat problems.
