Anarchy When?

I just got back from the Rally protesting Illegal Immigration (and I guess protesting / protesting Illegal Immigration) in downtown Portland at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Naturally I was on the side of protesting Illegal Immigration.

While numbers were thin on both sides, I was somewhat shocked at the number of young clearly Caucasian people on the Pro-Illegal Immigration side. Their cry was a little disturbing as well. It was primarily “Anarchy Now” – WHAT? Ok, did you kids get off the bus at the wrong stop?

Yes, that’s right! The big red A on a black background, the hoodie / mask, all dressed in black – But wait, that’s the typical dress for your basic Downtown Portland youth anyway. Probably bored on a dismal Sunday afternoon with nothing to do and no imagination to think of something constructive to do, they decided to join in to whatever it was going on at the Northeast corner of Pioneer Courthouse Square.

I have to wonder why they feel they need to hide behind the masks. I know why the Illegal aliens do. If they get their picture taken they may be exposed as an Illegal Alien, but these kids I’m sure are legally here and are entitled to those things to which all citizens of the United States are entitled.

It was humorous when the Mexicans decided it was time for a chant of some kind, the Caucasian kids had to wait to hear what they were saying and do their best to try to repeat it.

I guess the most disturbing thing about all of it was that they were there with their Anarchy flags, signs, hooded masks, standing up for something they clearly do not understand and I and several other Patriots are there fighting for a better America that these poor misguided individuals will inherit.

The proper term for those clowns would be "Lifestyle Anarchists".

No clue about anarchism, other than wearing black and red, and getting hoodwinked by A.N.S.W.E.R. Stalinists.

"Considering that their theory doesn't believe in nations or governments..."

Of course they don't believe in government, at least not until it's time to sign up for the Oregon Health Plan, the Oregon Trail card, section 8 housing, unemployment, SSDI, medicaid, etc etc etc.

I am very concerned that your completely basing all of your beliefs around stereotypes and not rationalism. I'm an Anarcho-Communist, and I'm a firm believer in a world without borders or government. Not because I got bored one day, but because I see the terrible condition that the world is in and believe that it is something we need to change. Immigrants have a very hard time organizing when they are not considered legal by our government.
Your trying to fit Anarchists into the "Bored punks" stereotype, and questioning them because they don't side with your race. Race doesn't even exist, so that doesn't even constitute an actual argument for anyone who bases their beliefs off of rational arguments.
Your trying to fit yourself into the "Patriot" stereotype. To quote Emma Goldman, an Anarchist who lived far before the Punk scene developed:
"Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who have had the fortune of being born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent than the living beings inhabiting any other spot. It is, therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill, and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all the others."

Poor misguided Anonymous,

You clearly haven't been outside lately. I understand your rough reference stating ‘there are no races’ alluding to the theory that there is but one race... the human race.

I get that you feel we should focus on helping all of mankind. I believe that is a noble however misguided sentiment.

I am not a racist but you’d have a tough time convincing me that there aren’t different races. It is scientifically and socially proven that there are differences even if you can’t tell by looking. I personally thank God for those differences, because we are all deficient in some way or another and what could be better than to play off each other’s strengths?

I take great pride in where I came from and my ancestry. I believe everyone should or at least has the right to. In a world without borders and some form of government, there’s nothing unique about anyone and chaos would rein supreme. Ideally, a world where everybody treated everyone else with love and respect would be wonderful, but that is pure fantasy – Disneyland my friend. Not in the human make up. There’s always someone that wants to take advantage of the situation. You need government to keep those people in check.

I had come downtown Portland to voice my opposition to ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. To help clarify this for you, they are not considered Illegal by our government because of their race, they are illegal (criminals) because they have broken (usually several) laws of this country. In fact, if they have a job in this country, they have broken no less than 9 rather serious laws.

Contrary to what you might think, my opinion(s) are based on hard facts that are provable and undisputable as long as we discuss them using provable facts, logic and not emotions and feelings.

While I was downtown Portland, I didn’t guess that these kids were there just to stir things up and were probably clueless about what the real issues were. I experienced it first hand. I talked with them and their ignorance was immediately apparent, I watched them and their purpose was clear. They just wanted to start a fight or riot to defer their boredom.

Both the anti-illegal immigration folks and the pro-illegal immigration folks were relatively civil and as I’ve experienced in the past even tossed a few humorous quips back and forth.

The threat was from the black masked hooded cowards that were afraid to show their faces. If I were a true Anarchist, theses little shits would piss me off for sullying my cause.

By the way, Emma Goldman “Red Emma” was a narrow-minded idiot.

I would consider myself a anarchist-socialist, and I agree with certain things that both Greg and the "anarchist-communist" said.

1. I think its true that these anarchists are immature going around in all black with hoods and masks.

2. I do think that Illegal immigration is bad, and that a world without borders cannot exist. Legal immigration on the other hand is fine.

3. I agree with the anarchist-communist when he says that opponents of anarchist like to label anarchists as mask wearing hooligans who have nothing better to do than riot. People who are into punk rock, wear all black, destroy things, and are in there early 20's and late teens advocate a lifestyle. These people may also support anarchist ideas, but they are mainly promoting their way of life, and therefore scare us mainstream folks with their clothes, hair, ideas, ect.

4. Anarchist come in all shapes and forms, from your old jewish grandpa to your young rock-throwing teenager. When the poster lumps all anarchists into what I said in #3 (IE wearing black, wanting to smash stuff, ect.) he stereotypes and makes a lackluster argument. The only reason why Anarchism is synonymous with black-clad teenagers breaking windows is because the media propagates that messege (yes, some anarchist fit the mold, but most don't).

5. Greg: "Emma Goldman “Red Emma” was a narrow-minded idiot."

That was the worst comment of all. Emma goldman had one of the most open minds ever. She thought about things that others didn't. She was a great woman, although not without her problems. Read about her and you will find yourself completely wrong.
